Add or Update Bank Information
Bank information can be added to a Learning Quest or Learning Quest Advisor account for contribution and withdrawal purposes.
IMPORTANT: At least one Account Owner or the beneficiary must be listed on the bank account registration to establish bank instructions for contributions and withdrawals. If you would like to enable 529 account contributions using a bank account owned by a third party (a non-Account Owner), all parties must complete and return our Learning Quest Account Features Form or our Learning Quest Advisor Account Features Form. Please note that third party bank information may only be used for contribution purposes.
Information you will be asked to provide:
- Registered owner(s) of the bank account
- 9-digit ABA routing number
- Bank account number
- Account type (checking or savings)
What You Need to Know
- Bank information is applied according to the primary Tax Identification number (Social Security or Employer Identification number) registered to the account. When you add bank information to an account online, you are adding it to all eligible accounts registered under that Tax Identification number.
- One-time Contributions and Recurring Contribution Plans are available immediately upon adding your bank information online; however, a hold period to verify bank account and routing numbers may be required. Additionally, your new bank information is subject to verification and any transactions may be canceled.
- For your protection, we place a 7 calendar day hold on new bank information before we will send withdrawal proceeds to the new bank account. Therefore, withdrawal proceeds requested during this period will be sent after the hold has expired. A confirmation of the change will be sent to you whenever a change of bank information is requested.

- Log In with your User Name and Password.
- Click on the Profile & Documents icon.

If your bank account information is already on file, please allow 3 to 5 business days for processing and transmittal of the funds. View steps for adding bank information online.
- Check by mail payable to the Account Owner(s), the beneficiary or an eligible educational institution. Please allow 7 to 10 business days for processing and delivery of the check.

What You Need to Know
- If you have recently made a contribution in the account, the money you contributed will not be available for withdrawal for 7 calendar days. Additionally, we place a 7 calendar day hold on new bank information before we will send withdrawal proceeds to a newly added bank account. Therefore, withdrawal proceeds requested during this period will be sent after the hold has expired.
- The earnings portion of a non-qualified withdrawal may be subject to federal income tax and a 10% federal penalty tax as well as state and local income taxes. See the Learning Quest Handbook or the Learning Quest Advisor Handbook for additional information.
- Kansas taxpayers: If you take a non-qualified withdrawal at any time, the earnings portion of the withdrawal, as well as the contribution portion that you have previously deducted on your Kansas tax return, will be subject to Kansas state taxes. The IRS and the Kansas Department of Revenue may require you to prove that your withdrawal is for Qualified Higher Education Expenses. Check with your tax advisor, or review the instructions for filing your Kansas income tax return, for more information.
- We are required to file an IRS Form 1099-Q when a withdrawal is made from a Learning Quest or Learning Quest Advisor account. Proceeds made payable and sent to the Account Owner will be reported under the Account Owner's Social Security number. Proceeds made payable to and sent to the beneficiary or an eligible educational institution will be reported under the beneficiary's Social Security number.
- Payroll Deductions do not automatically stop when all units of the account have been withdrawn. Please contact your payroll office to discontinue the payroll deduction plan if you wish for the account to remain closed.
- If you are requesting the withdrawal by check and your address has changed within the last 7 days, the check will be held until the 7 days have passed, unless your instructions are submitted in writing with your signature guaranteed.
